Happy New Year
January 1st, 2010How To Teach Your Pooch Skateboard
November 3rd, 2009OK, you know the staff here at Buy Skateboards totally loves skateboarding animals of ANY kind and now we found a tutorial that shows you how to teach your dog to skateboard!!
It’s got 6 steps that start with getting your dog to place two front feet on any object that you want and ends up with actually teaching him, (or her), to actually step onto the skateboard!
New Skateboard Park in Dogtown
October 21st, 2009A new $3.4 million dollar skate park was recently opened at Venice Beach, California, in what was know in the 70’s as Dogtown.
The park will be named after Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew who was one of the original Venice skaters that helped define skateboarding during the heyday of the Dogtown days of Venice in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
The mayor of Los Angeles as well as a host of city officials were on hand to get their time in the spotlight, (although none of them took a spin in the skatepark!).
Some professional skaters, including Jesse Martinez, Jay Adams, and Tony Alva were one hand for the festivities.
Let’s hope everyone behaves and the skateboard park stays open and safe for a long time to come in honor of Dogtown.
Using Your Head
October 15th, 2009A skateboarder in Canada recently let shopping go to his head: he smashed through the window of a pet store!
While the customers were surprised and some of the store’s birds flew away, the rider was apparently unhurt, even though he smashed head first into the store and wasn’t wearing a helmet.
The 21 year-old rider fessed up and paid for the damages and was issued a ticket by local police since skateboarding is not permitted on any sidewalk in the city, and not at all in any business improvement area.
Old School Flashback
October 12th, 2009OK guys and gals -- you want to see some REAL old school skateboarding? Our staff here at Buy SkateBoards has found this totally cool old video of some skateboard tricks from the 1970s:
Can you say, “nice shorts”??.
Actually some of those old school skateboards were pretty cool boards and would be pretty rad to ride these days… probably had clay wheels and everything!
New Skate Park In West Virginia
September 30th, 2009Hold onto your rails, although it’s taken longer than officials and skateboarders have hoped, a new skateboard park is still slated to be built in Bluefield by next spring, according to officials there.
Members of the Bluefield Skateboarders Association performed community service work two years ago as a way to show the city that they were committed to the development of park and many are losing hope they will eventually get to skateboard in the park, but officials are promising the kids that the skate park is still going to become a reality.
Skateboard Tricks Video
September 22nd, 2009Our Buy Skateboards staff has once again scoured the internet and found an awesome how-to video skateboarding tricks showing techniques for the Flat Ground Ollie, Backside Shuv-it and Kick Flip.
Our longboard skateboards are made for cruising so they’re too long for these tricks but any of our mini complete skateboards can be used:
Skateboarding Cat
August 22nd, 2009OK -- you know the staff here at Buy Skate Boards loves to spend time on You Tube finding funny or rad skateboard videos… sometimes involving animals, (usually dogs). So here’a one the crew dug up of a skateboarding cat:

Tony Hawk to Skate on White
July 18th, 2009For all of you Tony Hawk fans it looks like the next version of Tony Hawk Ride will NOT feature a black skateboard but instead a white skateboard.
Seems the programmers felt the white would be more consumer friendly… uh, OK.
Tony Hawk Ride is scheduled for a fall release and is being developed for the Wii by Buzz Monkey, who is working closely with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 developer Robomodo.
For those of you who want to ride the real thing you can check out our skateboards here…
Skateboards, Not Guns!
July 14th, 2009
We here at Buy Skate Boards just found this amazing site: Skateistan
Believe it or not it’s an Afghan skateboarding school! According to their website: ” It engages the growing numbers of urbanised youth through skateboarding and provides new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction and education.”
They’re currently working on getting the first skate park constructed next to Ghazi Stadium in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Pretty amazing that skateboarding can accomplish so much, eh?
Happy 4th
July 4th, 2009Hoping all our Buy Skateboards customers are out doing some cruising and enjoying the long holiday weekend – Happy 4th of July everyone!!
Good News For Surfers in Long Beach
June 30th, 2009
After many, many , many years of local surfers and environmentalists fighting to get the breakwater removed and ‘restore the shore’ in Long Beach, CA, they got a step closer this week when the Army Corps of Engineers announced they will conduct a federal study of the removal and/or reconfiuration of the famed Long Beach breakwater.
Before the breakwater was erected by the Corp in the in 1940’s, Long Beach was home to some of the best surfing breaks in California. It was an internationally know for it’s good waves and hosted numerous competitions. There was surf to be found up and down the entire beach with the best waves found on the southern end at the flood control channel and near the Alamitos Bay entrance.
A recent study by Sean Collins at Surfline can be read here…
So, surfers and skaters rejoice -there’s still hope that Long Beach will sink the breakwater and restore the shore!!
Beach Clean Up at Seal Beach
June 26th, 2009Hey all you skaters, surfers and ocean lovers in Seal Beach, CA, tomorrow is your chance to do a good deed, (because we all know none go unpunished), and come on out to help the Save Our Beach group with their monthly beach clean up at Seal Beach near the river jetty.
SOB is a really great group who works their butts off picking up other people’s butts left on the sands of Seal Beach!
The clean up is held 11am -2pm and as always you can get free parking at the 1st St lot and SOB will provide garbage bags, protective gloves, drinking water, hand sanitizers and certificates if you need one for school credit or community service.
Poughkeepsie Skateboard Park to Re Open
June 24th, 2009Closed due to financial problems back in January, the skateboard park at Waryas Park should be reopening this month!
The skate park was run by the Dutches County YMCA but financial problems forced them to close in January. Fortunately the city is stepping in and allocating the $34,000 needed to keep the skateboard park open for the summer.
We here at Buy-Skate-Boards think that was a wise decision as it will keep the park open so kids can get off the streets amd have some good, clean fun!

What Would You Skate 45 Miles For?
May 27th, 2009A FILM student studying at the University of Worcester has completed an epic 45-mile journey to Buckingham Palace on his skateboard.
Chris Mullins took on the daunting two day skate to raise money for DebRA, a charity which carries out research into rare genetic skin disorders.
Mullins said, “It was a really accomplishing feeling to make it to the palace but the fact we have raised so much money for charity is amazing. I am really worn out and have got a massive blister, but it was definitely worth it.”

A Radical Collection of Vintage Skateboard Advertisements
May 14th, 2009Skateboarding first came into prominence in the late 1970s, as was portrayed in the 200 film Lords of Dogtown. However, it was not until the 1980s that skateboarding would begin to become the sport that it is recognized as today. This decade was the coming of age era for many of its legendary personalities as well – Hosoi, Hawk, Vallely and more.
